Sustainability.
Here and now.

Sustainable thinking is part of Crassevig’s history, identity, and everyday actions. It influences every decision, big or small, balancing global challenges with local culture.

Our idea of sustainable design is more than a technical issue. It stems from shared values that guide us toward growth rooted in environmental and social sustainability. These collective and individual values shape our entire supply chain, from raw materials to the finished product, which for us is more than just an object. It is the most beautiful expression of our commitment to the future.

A sustainable corporate environment promotes both environmental and social development

We pursue the ideal of sustainable growth and ensure that every aspect of our work within the company reflects a set of virtuous habits. We firmly believe that a workplace focused on human well-being is the first step toward sustainable economic and social development progress. Through inclusive and circular growth strategies, we create opportunities for young people and promote rational, safe work practices. The quality and efficiency of our company systems and our commitment to environmental sustainability are recognized by international certifications ISO 9001:2015 and ISO 14001:2015.

Energy resources integrated into the company

In our vision, the energy transition is both a challenge and an opportunity. By investing in green technologies and adopting integrated renewable energy sourcing strategies, we have significantly reduced our environmental impact and improved our long-term competitiveness and sustainability. As of 2023, 93% of the heating required by our company comes from biomass energy derived from wood production waste that cannot be reused. 60% of the electricity needed for our production facilities is generated by our photovoltaic system. The remaining energy needs are obtained comes from certified renewable sources.

Community and social responsibility

A healthy, equitable and inclusive work environment that values human capital is essential for achieving sustainable development. We deeply value our connection with the local community. Imagining the future in connection with the collective is an identity value that goes beyond geographic belonging. Social responsibility towards our community is a foundational principle, inspiring ethical practices and shared relationships with everyone involved in our world. We are proud that our production chain has maintained the characteristics of a short supply chain. Along with our employees and collaborators, nearly 70% of our suppliers are part of the local production network, creating positive effects on mobility, resource consumption and environmental impact.

Empathy and creativity.
Our approach to design.

Designing a sustainable object requires considering many factors across its entire lifecycle, including the ability to bring wellness to the person who will use it, whether at home or work. Ergonomics – a scientific principle that combines psychological and physiological perspective – plays a key role in integrating human beings with design objects. Ergonomics follows the human body’s forms and movements, promoting both mental and physical well-being. We have always used non-toxic materials, imagining essential and comfortable forms with the user’s pleasure in mind. We see sustainability as a continuous and circular flow of virtuous actions, believing that an object’s value also lies in the benefits it brings to human life and the planet.

Products that stand the test of time

Beyond material quality, future design cannot ignore durability. Producing sustainable objects also means ensuring they don’t become waste by designing – from the first sketch to the prototype – their longevity, repairability, and proper disposal. Every project begins with a reflection on the lifespan of our products, a radical departure from the “disposable” design mindset. For years, longevity has inspired our research and creativity. Each component of our products can be easily separated from the others, so every material can be handled and processed according to its nature and lifespan. Tested in physical and mechanical laboratories, the safety, quality, and reliability of our products are certified by CATAS.

Transparency and circularity fuel our creativity

Reducing environmental impact is our top priority. Managing raw materials and natural resources means knowing the exact origin of materials and optimizing production processes. Every day, we work to minimize our environmental impact. Emissions are constantly filtered and monitored, while waste is reused and recycled to prevent unnecessary waste. Most Crassevig products carry full Chain of Custody certification, ensuring material traceability throughout the supply chain and the wood’s origin from responsibly managed forests. We believe in the value of a regenerative approach and like to think that every object or element can always be repaired, renewed, or recycled. Conscious resource consumption, sustainable production models and waste- reduction practices are the key steps we take to achieve circularity.

Sustainable design, from wood onward

Crassevig’s identity is rooted in the Friulian tradition of woodworking. For 55 years, the uniqueness of our products has stemmed from our material choices, selected for their quality and environmental impact. Our designs interpret this artisanal tradition through simple forms inspired by ergonomic principles and a production approach that balances nature. We also prioritize the ethical origin of materials, adding a sustainable dimension to our designs, starting with wood, the material we know best. The wood used in our production process comes from certified forests that are not subject to deforestation.

New materials supporting circularity

For us, sustainability is a fantastic creative opportunity that naturally drives innovation and material experimentation. Introducing thermoplastics into our production processes was a revolutionary move toward sustainability. We see thermoplastics as a material with great potential: they are durable, recyclable and eco-friendly, allowing us to repair or replace damaged parts, thus extending the lifespan of objects. Additionally, using and disposing of our thermoplastics has a low impact: many of our products are made from recycled materials and 99% are further recyclable. From our research, we’ve created beautiful, eco-friendly designs that lead us into the future. Finna chair, designed in collaboration with the Ramos Bassols studio, is a perfect blend of ethics and design. Thin as a sheet, Finna features four solid oak legs and a smooth shell made from fully recycled thermoplastic polymer, reinforced with mineral additives for strength and durability. It’s slim, lightweight, and easy to disassemble, repair or replace, thus fully circular and long-lasting.

Padding and coverings

Soft seating represents the ideal synthesis between our ecological approach and the well-being and comfort goals that inspire our design. Our cushions are made from polyurethane certified by CertiPURTM, ensuring the material is safe, non-toxic and environmentally compliant. The fabric covers – whether from our catalog or provided by exclusive partners – are guaranteed by dual certification: the EU Ecolabel, which confirms high standards and ecological quality for products and services, and Oeko-Tex® Standard 100, which certifies the absence of harmful substances in textiles.

Aluminum and metal

Our sustainable vision embraces different materials. We love exploring their essence
and experimenting with unconventional combinations. At the core of our technical and stylistic research is a deep understanding of materials, a eagerness for innovation and a focus on the sustainable quality of the projects we envision. We appreciate the simplicity and versatility of metals. Many of our seating products are supported by metal structures. Aluminum, in particular, is ideal for our creative needs. It’s lightweight, flexible, and durable, as well as recyclable and 100% reusable – qualities we value highly.
